Basil seeds or Sabja seeds as is known locally belong to the mint family. 

Basil seeds are native to India and the Mediterranean region. 

They are small oval elongated shapes and have a uniform jet black appearance. 

They have a mild basil flavor which it lends to drins and desserts that it is added to. 

Basil seeds are a good source of iron and known to have cooling properties besides being soothing on the stomach and aids in combating acidity. 

It is also used as a detoxifying agent to clean and purify the blood.
